Three months after the upheaval that nearly destroyed Chicago’s supernatural underworld, Alexandra Balarescu has carved out a new role — arbiter. She negotiates territory disputes, brokers fragile truces between rival Coven houses, and keeps the peace by sheer force of reputation. It’s thankless, exhausting work. It’s also the closest thing to purpose she’s had in a hundred and thirty years.

The cunning Fae has retreated into the Betwixt — a dimension between worlds where memory becomes architecture and emotion reshapes reality. There, she’s building something that will fold the physical world into her domain and render every living thing in it irrelevant. And every move Alexandra has made since their last encounter has been playing into Zara’s design.
To stop her, Alexandra will have to enter a realm that doesn’t obey the rules of the one she knows — where healing falters, weapons lose their edge, and the only way forward is to weaponize her own grief, rage, and humanity against a being who has been pulling her strings from the start.
